A backup is always a good thing to have, whether you're talking about escape plans or travel routes. Of course, when you're talking about making a backup or copy of a DVD, things can get a little tricky. It is important to note before going any further that copying DVDs is only legal if you already own the original DVD. Copying a DVD to a hard drive--not just laptop hard drives--is a relatively simple affair, but you need the right tools for the job. DVDshrink is a program that will not only copy a DVD to your hard drive, it will also shrink it down so that it will fit on a basic DVD+R blank disk.
Instructions

Turn on your computer.

Download and install DVD Shrink. Follow the onscreen instructions that appear when running the installer, and select where you'd like to install it on your hard drive.

Once the installation has finished, run DVD Shrink.

Insert the DVD you wish to copy into your DVD-R/RW drive.

Click the "open disc" button at the top left of your screen.

Select the DVD drive where the DVD is located and click "OK."

DVD Shrink will now load your movie for you. Once the movie has been loaded, click the "backup" button.

DVD Shrink will ask you where you want to save your DVD backup. Select the appropriate path and folder name, then click the "OK" button.

DVDshrink will now copy the DVD to your hard drive
