How to Watch HD on an Analog TV

In mid-2009, the conversion from analog to digital broadcasting was finalized in the US. With that conversion came confusion, but a simple converter solved that. Today, those converters are still available from various sources, enabling people to view digital broadcasts on analog televisions. These boxes are connected to existing antennae, used to pull in analog broadcasts. Although it is important to note that true high definition resolution is impossible on an analog TV, these decoders prevent the immediate need to replace analog sets by stepping down the digital feed to make it viewable.

Instructions

Access the rear of the analog television and the DTV converter box. Locate the RF coaxial antenna input on the converter and the cable input on the rear of the television.

Screw the antenna feed into the RF coax input on the rear of the DTV converter box. Route a length of RG-6 coaxial cable from the DTV converter to the RF coaxial input on the rear of the television. Screw all connectors down by hand until secure.



3.Set the "Channel" switch on the DTV converter to correspond to the channel used on the analog TV to view the output of the converter. These choices are typically channels 3 or 4 and they are chosen based on levels of interference from local broadcasts.

Enter the converter box's menu using the unit's remote control. Consult the device's manual for the specific sequence of buttons to press. Access the channel memorization section of the menu and begin the auto-tune process to have the decoder pull in and memorize the available channels.
