The BlackBerry Bold smartphone features a LED light that flashes when you receive a call or message or when an alarm goes off. The default setting on the Bold triggers a red light when you receive messages. A number of BlackBerry applications allow you to choose from several different LED colors and assign them to your contacts. As a result, you do not need to open a message to see who it is from.

Instructions

Access the Sounds menu on your Bold. Select Edit Profiles. Make sure that the LED option reads "On" within the email, SMS and MMS menus for each of your sound profiles. If it reads "Off," the phone will not display an LED alert when you receive messages.

Navigate to Appworld.BlackBerry.com. Download a BlackBerry application for customizing the phone's LED colorsuch as Who Is It?, Color ID or BeBuzz. You can download some apps directly from the app website.

Follow the prompts to install the app. You may need to reboot your Bold to complete the installation.

Launch the app.

Browse through the list of colors. Assign a color to a contact by navigating to your phonebook and selecting that contact. Some apps also allow you to assign colors to different message types, such as SMS, email and BlackBerry Messeger instant messages.

Save the new settings and exit the app. The next time a contact sends you a message, the LED alert will display the color you assigned to that contact. Messages from contacts that you do not assign a color to will continue to trigger a red LED notification.

Why Do My LED Spotlights Glow When the Light Is Switched Off?

LED spotlights are designed to provide illumination on a specific area using LEDs and mirrors to focus the light. LED stands for light-emitting diode, a type of illumination created by diodes that feature specific elements that lead to the release of electrical energy as different types of light. LEDs are efficient and long-lasting compared to other lighting options, but they also have problems that can develop through the course of their use

Symptoms
It is common for LEDs to glow after they have been turned off. They might flicker slightly for several minutes, or they may produce a low light, only a fraction of their normal brightness, that does not go away. This may be especially noticeable with a concentrated source of light like a spotlight. If you unplug the LED light entirely, the glow should soon vanish.

Residual Voltage
This glow from the LED lights is caused by residual voltage in the electrical line that powers your spotlight. LED bulbs are made out of a collection of diodes. Just one of these diodes is so efficient that the residual current that still travels your power cord is enough to cause it to light up slightly. While this does not indicate a serious problem, it can wear down your LED bulb and might be annoying for your lighting designs. You have a couple of options to rectify the problem.

Diode Blocking
If you want to spend a little money to fight diodes with diodes, you can install a zener diode on the same electrical line that the LED light uses. This diode is designed to block residual voltage for delicate electrical components, so it should be able to stop any incoming current from lighting your bulb. Zener diodes come with different values of blocking, so choose a higher value -- enough to block the voltage flowing through your line.

Cluster Bulbs
Your LED spotlight is probably already a cluster bulb, made out of several diodes. These bulbs have an advantage because they require a higher initial voltage to start. You might be able to fix the problem by switching to an even larger cluster. This requires buying a new LED spotlight, which can be expensive, but can also solve your problem.

3.Separate the enclosure disk from the Edison base tri-clip that is on the retrofit fixture to allow room for installation. Screw the retrofit Edison base into the socket on the existing housing assembly. Pull the wires inside the retrofit fixture can.

Place the tri-clip tabs into coordinating slots in the enclosure disk. Press the enclosure disk on the socket housing. Line up the enclosure disk notches with the housing clips. Bend the tri-clip tabs outward for a tight fit.

Surround the socket housing and disk assembly inside the metal clamshell case. Align the two halves of the case with the guide tabs. Check that the disk-side conduit exits through the top-center opening and the housing-side conduit exits through an opening on the side of the case.

Force off the set of adjacent removable tabs that provides the most ideal opening route for the housing-side conduit out of the case. Screw the case halves together where the two fastening holes align.

Adjust the recessed can retrofit fixture clips to the highest point in the slot. Tighten it gently using wing nuts. Push the clamshell case, electrical connection, and leftover conduit into the ceiling. Place the can into the hole in the ceiling.

Loosen the wing nuts on the can’s clip. Pull the clip down and tighten the wing nuts. Repeat for all three clips.

Converting an existing boat light into an LED light can be done within a few hours and will provide for a better and more efficient light in the darkness. It will also last longer and be more durable than a conventional bulb. Instructions 1 Put the clean cloth down on a work surface. Remove the masthead anchor light from its position on the boat and lay it down on the clean cloth. 2 Separate the casing of the masthead anchor light using the flat edged screwdriver. Unscrew the incandescent bulb. Desolder and remove the wires connected from the casing to the incandescent bulb. 3.Hold the incandescent bulb by the socket at the bottom and place the bulb into the garbage bag. Smash the bulb with the hammer. 4 Remove the bulb from the garbage bag and throw the garbage bag away. Remove all of the fragments of the bulb that are still in the bulb's socket. Remove any ceramic insulators that might still be in the bulb's socket. 5 Solder the LED light to the current limiting resistor. Solder the LED light to the wires in the casing in the same manner as they were attached to the incandescent bulb. 6 Place the LED light into the incandescent bulb's socket. Crumble some aluminum foil. Place the crumpled foil around the LED light so as to form a cone. 7 Secure the LED light to the incandescent bulb's socket with the silicon paste. Let the paste dry. 8 Place the socket with the LED light back into the casing of the masthead anchor light. Secure the casing with the bonding glue. 9 Reassemble the casing of the masthead anchor light. Return the masthead anchor light to its position on the boat. An LED display board is a video display that uses light-emitting diodes. LED display boards are typically used on billboards or store signs to advertise businesses or relay a message. They are also used in public transport vehicles or destination signs. If you make the LED display board yourself, you can use different colored lights on the LED display, and decorate it any way you wish.

Instructions

Start off with a piece of cardboard. Cut the cardboard the size and shape you want your display. Spray-paint the cardboard any color you want, if you desire. You can be creative with the cardboard and paint it any way you like, using different colors and patterns if you desire.

Measure and mark a grid with spaces 3/4 inch apart on the cardboard. Drill small 1/16-inch holes using a hand-held drill or a drill press if you have one. If you have neither, a sharp pencil will work.

3.Put the LEDs through the holes. Run the column wires down the back of the array, and run the row wires across to the front. This makes it easier to keep the wires from touching each other and shorting out. The positive ends of the LEDs are connected electrically. This means the negative ends connect to each other. Soldering the wires provides the connection and support for the wires between the LEDs.

Connect the positive end of the wires of the LEDs to the positive end on the battery holder. Connect the negative end of the wires of the LEDs to the negative end of the battery holder. You can solder these wires, but if you do not have a solder kit, you can twist the wires.

Light up the LEDs by inserting the batteries into the holder. When the batteries are inserted, the LEDs light up. Pull one battery out when you want to turn off the display.

How to Make an LED Boat Light

Boats need lights on them that last a long time and provide for a bright light. Incandescent bulbs are subject to the stress of the waves and so not the best choice for use on a boat. Converting an existing boat light into an LED light can be done within a few hours and will provide for a better and more efficient light in the darkness. It will also last longer and be more durable than a conventional bulb.

Instructions

Put the clean cloth down on a work surface.

Remove the masthead anchor light from its position on the boat and lay it down on the clean cloth.

Separate the casing of the masthead anchor light using the flat edged screwdriver. Unscrew the incandescent bulb.

Desolder and remove the wires connected from the casing to the incandescent bulb.

3.Hold the incandescent bulb by the socket at the bottom and place the bulb into the garbage bag. Smash the bulb with the hammer.

Remove the bulb from the garbage bag and throw the garbage bag away. Remove all of the fragments of the bulb that are still in the bulb's socket.

Remove any ceramic insulators that might still be in the bulb's socket.

Solder the LED light to the current limiting resistor. Solder the LED light to the wires in the casing in the same manner as they were attached to the incandescent bulb.

Place the LED light into the incandescent bulb's socket.

Crumble some aluminum foil. Place the crumpled foil around the LED light so as to form a cone.

Secure the LED light to the incandescent bulb's socket with the silicon paste. Let the paste dry.

Place the socket with the LED light back into the casing of the masthead anchor light.

Secure the casing with the bonding glue.

Reassemble the casing of the masthead anchor light. Return the masthead anchor light to its position on the boat.

Turn the masthead anchor light on and enjoy the light from the LED lamp.
