How to Get W98 to Work with a Flash Drive

Operation of peripherals with earlier versions of Windows operating systems, such as Windows 98, are dependent on a component called the Win32 Driver Model (WDM). Unfortunately, Windows 98’s release was prior to the existence of many universal serial bus (USB) devices as well as some key improvements to USB technology. Hence, the Windows 98 WDM lacks the USB drivers needed to operate many modern USB devices including some flash drives. The solution to this problem is to update the WDM’s USB drivers for your Windows 98 operating system. Double-click the file FESP230EN-R.EXE on your desktop and follow the onscreen instructions, which may include rebooting your system. On some systems, Windows may detect previously unused USB controllers and require a second reboot. 10 Double-click the file nusb320-Eng-98FE.exe on you desktop and follow the onscreen instructions which may include rebooting your system once the program has finished. 11 Reconnect any USB devices you may have. Your system will have full USB 2.0 support for new USB hardware and all previously functioning USB hardware you have should work in the new software environment at least as well as it did previously. When prompted with what you would like to do with the file, select “Save" and save the file to your desktop then run it from there by double-clicking it.
